G’day Hubsters! Today I am posting my first ever episode guide!! Unfortunately I havn’t been able to watch the show recently due to my poor little computer being on life support, but luckily a friend came to my rescue, and what a time to come to the rescue indeed!! Studying and setting up the site, has made me forgot just how much I miss being able to watch The Report. Everything about tonights show was brilliant!!
The end of semester exam/assignment cram marathon, ment that I have missed most of the Weiner Gate controversy (but, don’t you worry I definately intend to catch up on it all), but I have a fairly good idea of what was going on anyway. Weiner’s confession only confirmed what wasn’t that hard assume. Though, I don’t know what was better Stephen’s take down of Anthony Weiner’s confession, or the confession it’s self. And “the floggin’ of the fail whale” will never not be funny!! And Stephen’s little pot belly is just adorable. It’s just asking for a rub.

I know that in my time I have had a lot of epic *facepalm’s* and *head desks* but none more epic than at Sarah Palin trying to retell Paul Revere’s Midnight Rid. The women baffles me on a good day, but tonight I felt my brain give up and completely shut down. It was not even going to try and decipher the crazy, and her trying to explain why she’s not wrong, don’t even go there. Everyday I wake up and thank the heavens, that if we combine all the crazy politicians in Australia, they would not amount to 1/10 of Sarah Palin’s crazy. All I can say is goodluck Hubsters, enjoy the Palin Super Pac Family Vacation.
It’s good to still see the Nation respond when Stephen unleashes us on a Wiki editing mission. The page for “Bells” is currently protected from editing until June 8, 2011 due to vandalism. “If at first you don’t succeed try try again” No matter how hard the Wiki staff try and block the Nation from editing their pages, we are always one step ahead of them!! A big thanks to eagle eyed Hubster Madison for this screencap of the edited Equestrian Wiki page which now includes Paul Revere, bells and guns:

I can safely say that after tonight’s ep I will never look at a children’s horse ride at the shopping centre the same ever again!! There are so many things I could say about that segment, but I will let the .gif do all the talking. Enjoy!!

Well damn. Not the end to Weinergate that I’d hoped for. As icky as his behaviour was, I’m more offended by the stupidity he displayed in sending those sorts of messages out over the interwebs. How could he think that wouldn’t come back to bite him in the butt? And then there was the media blitz of lies. Sheesh. You get a D for your virtual affairs, Weiner, but you get an F- for the way you handled getting caught. That said, I still respect the guy’s work and I hope he gets to keep his job. I couldn’t help but feel bad for Jonny Stew. Reporting on skeevy, lying, horny politicians is nothing new for him, but having an old buddy be ‘that guy’ must be painfully disappointing and surreal.
But if there’s one thing that could get my mind off Weinergate, it’s Stephen Colbert riding a mechanical horse whilst ringing a bell, loading a rifle, and potentially destroying his physical ability to reproduce. There was much LOLing in my flat this morning. As for the interview, haha um, I’m sorry, what’s happpening?

Excellent stuff, Karenatasha! This all popped up right as I was watching said episode. Werner Herzog is barking mad, but charming as an interviewe here [I’ve heard he can be difficult ]. “I don’t usually have guests this deep”….hahahaha
But…er…yeah. You were obviously thinking what I was thinking [but apologies if you weren’t]…so…let the gifs do the talking. *cough* Most…er…distracting. Anthony who?

I also loved the line about “not having guests this deep.” I posted this on Karenatasha’s wonderful Herzog page earlier, but I think that at the end of the interview when Stephen’s mic was off, he shook Herzog’s hand and said, “That was lovely,” which I thought was incredibly sweet. Oh, to sit at that table…
Or be the second rider on that hobby horse…

There were so many funny moments in last night’s show, I feel singling just one of them out wouldn’t do the episode justice. But oh my Lord, did I crack up when Stephen started riding that horse! I’m talking throwing-my-head-back-guffawing-and-rolling-on-my-bed kind of laughter. Seeing him do it in a suit and tie made it all the more hilarious. I hadn’t heard Palin’s comment until Jon talked about it on last night’s TDS, so by the time Stephen mentioned it, I had to mute my television when they cut to the clip. Her comment was so dumb that I literally just couldn’t take hearing it again. Truth be told, I kind of hope she runs for president. As much as I want her to go away and never, ever say anything ever again…ever, the comments she’s bound to make during a presidential run would guarantee laughter until she is inevitably forced out of the running in glorious defeat.
The Werner Herzog interview was…weird. Weird and definitely funny. I think it’s safe to say Stephen was not anticipating it to go in the direction it did, and his ending comment was perfect. Solid show!

I’m sure Shakespeare would have said it that way if he’d seen Stephen. One of the best segments EVER.
And Werner Herzog was, well, Werner Herzog! What a fascinating exchange.

I’m with lockhart43. I also can’t pick one segment from this episode that I really liked. I feel really bad for Jon about this whole thing. He looked so subdued and embarrassed when he did his own Weinergate segment. It must be terrible having to cover a scandal that involves a good friend. And I myself am a little disappointed in Anthony, since he’s grown on me the last few months; I thought he knew better. What is with politicians and doing stupid things with strange women online? It’s come to the point when every Congressman/Senator Tom, Dick and Henry is caught in some tangle involving sex and women they’re not married to. Granted I still respect Weiner both for as a congressman and having the guts to finally come clean and wish him luck trying to salvage however much of his political career he has left after this.
But as usual, I can always count on Stephen to cheer me up/distract me from sordid events, and he certainly didn’t disappoint. From beginning to end, he had me laughing-silently-because-I-don’t-want-to-disturb-other-people-but-my-shoulders-are-actively-shaking-to-show-that-whatever-I’m-watching-on-my-laptop-is-very-funny all the way. My laughter reached its peak (when you get a sharp pain in your sternum from holding in your laughter) during the Palin/Paul Revere segment. I swear…I swear…can this woman be even more…no, I won’t say it, everyone’s thinking the same thing…anyway, Stephen on that mechanical horse wearing a tricorn and trying to ring the bell and reload his musket at the same time nearly made my head explode.
I really liked the Werner Herzog interview; he’s just so random and out-there, but I couldn’t help cracking up at every little thing he said (especially his monologue). He kinda reminds me of how my friends and I go on the weirdest tangents especially after staying up until 4 or 5am just talking. It kinda felt like that while he was talking, probably why I enjoyed it so much. I would love to see his documentary if it’s still playing when I get back. As such, this was a fantastic episode. I’ve been re-watching it while typing and I’ll think I’ll watch again when it’s done. 😉

The hobby-horse ride was hysterical, but my favorite part was the interview with Werner Herzog. Perhaps it is easier to follow if you have seen one or two of his films. They are definitely surreal. I saw “Aguirre” and “Fitzcarraldo” ages ago and still remember how strange and haunting they are. I applauded in my apartment when Herzog went on about the phone book and ended by declaring “I am not that kind of director!” Stephen was just loving it, because he also is not at all that kind of host. And for the first time I’ve noticed he openly commented during the interview about “making things up” and that we didn’t always know…(what he means?)
I think the two of them had a great interview. Repeat appearance I hope.
