That WORD was absolutely brilliant. The Supreme Court decision was a travesty, an offense against equal rights. Those judges should feel completely ashamed of themselves.

I thought exactly the same thing, Karenatasha. It’s getting to be a little too disconcerting just how wrong they’re getting these very important decisions.
And I’m constantly amazed at how much of a brilliantly polished gem The WORD segment is. The work that goes into each one is ridiculous. And Stephen’s delivery is yet another subtle layer.

That Word was phenomenal. When he said the line about sexual harassment, my jaw dropped. And the closing line was so satisfying.
I loved watching Stephen fight his way through that second segment, desperately trying not to laugh. The look on his face when the camera cut back to him shoveling Jell-O was adorable. And speaking of adorable, Stephen + headdesk = absolute cuteness. I actually liked how he kept dipping in and out of character during the interview. The part where Stephen called out Nancy Pelosi for blocking the Democrats from doing BKAD was great, too. And there was a wonderful sign-off as well? What a solid, solid show.
Something that did bug me though, which I feel the need to mention, was when Stephen was introducing Alexandra Pelosi. The joke about making a U.S. citizen (“I know how to do that, I learned it in health class”) was hilarious, but you could hardly hear it, the audience was cheering so loud. Which also means they never got the chance to laugh at it. I appreciated how enthusiastic the crowd was throughout the entire episode, but part of me really wanted that joke to land better.

The audience tends to annoy me on an almost nightly basis. I understand their excitement, but I always find myself screaming at them in my head to shut up already at the beginning of each show, because the cheering sometimes goes on ridiculously long. And then, as you mentioned, they sometimes step all over the jokes. I’ve noticed that happening more and more lately. I understand that the audience is sort of like Stephen’s improv partner in a scene, but some nights it seriously overacts.
BTW, none of this applies to the audience if/when I finally get to attend a taping. That will be the most awesome audience ever and all of our cheering, especially mine, will be completely justified and you can all just deal with it.

I’ve noticed that lately they’ve really been overlapping the 3rd act opening, or the joke as Stephen introduces the guest. Like you, I totally understand their excitement, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to hear the joke. And I’d really like them to hear the joke, so that they can laugh and make it so that the time that was taken to come up with that joke was time well spent.

Oh absolutely. When I was there, I cheered so hard my voice was raspy and the audience was fantastic. There’s definitely a “when I do, it it’s awesome, but when you do it, it’s annoying” mentality to it, and I am totally okay with that.

By the way, I’d like to give some kudos tonight to Jon, who continues his assault upon Fox News in fine form. He’s really fired up and furious and what happened after that interview with Wallace. Also, Jon Oliver really was super tonight as well.

Agreed! I started clapping after the clip of Jon’s impressions. I was happy he had me laughing throughout the whole thing, because that barrage of Fox News clips they played (I’m guessing from the just the last 24 hours) was sincerely making me angry. And the segment they did Monday night was brilliant as well. You could hear the frustration in his voice during the Monday segment, and tonight was the equally entertaining, “Bring it on, motherf****rs” tone.

I was so hoping either Stephen or Jon would tackle the Wal-Mart story, and The Word did not disappoint. At least half the Supreme Court is an absolute disgrace, Thomas in particular.
Loved the Bachmann/Manson comparison. It’s funny cause it’s true. Which is terrifying. And I think I ruptured my spleen laughing at “beautiful…natural…monkey vagina.” And based on the look on Stephen’s face as he held back laughter, so did he.

Add me to the growing accolades for the WORD. When I first started watching the show, the WORD was one of the hardest segments for me to get, like understanding how it worked and such. It also helps if you know what topic the WORD is covering and if it’s interesting to you. Some WORDs didn’t do it for me, but this WORD was spot on and brilliant.
Stephen’s half-character break during the monkey segment was darling, but his epic head-desk during the interview? SUPER adorable. I love head-desks, as long as Stephen doesn’t actually hurt himself. And I found the interview really interesting as well, and it’s relevant to me and my family as foreigners. All I can hope for is, if we ever decide to take citizenship, we’ll be sworn in somewhere more dignified than a circus. *shakes head* Sometimes I really don’t understand the government and the White House, and maybe that’s how it’s supposed to go.
I have to give a shout out (hey!) to TDS for last night (and Monday). What they did was GOLD. When is Faux News EVER going to get that they’ll NEVER win against Jon? His intellect and wit are too sharp and swift against their stupidity. He certainly seems really annoyed by all this, I mean, how long has it been already? And, of course, the rest was great. From his montage of past impressions to Louis C.K., I was wheezing from laughter by the end. Fabulous job as usual.
